Jim Hoogerhyde's Tesla powered Streamliner‍ ‍

The car that went 315 MPH, with a record average of 309.373 MPH on electric power! This was a major undertaking. The cars previous belt design proved it was not strong enough to withstand the high torque of the modified Tesla LDU motor. A new arrangement was made with a quick-change rear end that solved the previous weak design and allowed for easy gearing changes. Once the drivetrain was able to hold together, a new battery had to be designed with hybrid cells at its heart to withstand the high current demands of the motor. The Battery was built in-house with some help from friends. Once the battery pack was able to deliver the required current the inverter was upgraded to the performance inverter, giving an extra 70 HP. The battery pack was designed to be serviceable, and the case was made of welded steel for safety. This saved us when the stator shorted due to heat, damaging the battery during a long run and we were able to rebuild the pack and run again with no damage to the rest of the vehicle. After repairs were complete it went off to make more E2 and E3 records at El Mirage!
